WPC: Shine! Sunny Sunshiny Day!

tomb of eagles moundWe just got back from a lovely trip to Scotland, and while I have hundreds of pictures that might fit this week’s challenge, shine, I picked this one because of the lens flare.

When folks heard we were headed to the Orkney Islands and then Skye, we got some sympathetic looks, like, gee, hope the weather holds out. Boy, did it! We had such beautiful sunshine through the trip north that I just started to embrace the lens flares rather than try to work around it.

This picture is from one of my favorite days when we hiked up to see the Tomb of the Eagles. It was a glorious day best expressed with the warmth of the sun. I don’t think it ruined the picture at all. It certainly made the day.

I Love Spring!

grandeur

Spring is here — and with it the awful yuckiness of pollen. I’m going to have to tackle all the surfaces on the patio today, but I feel like it’s wasted effort as I look up at the pine trees still full of those pods. Still, one must continue to live and I’d like to sit out there today to enjoy the nice weather, so out comes the hose, even if I have to repeat it again tomorrow. Not wasted time if I can enjoy a glass of wine or a beer later this afternoon.

I love poetry

This week’s photo challenge is doing double duty, or triple duty if you count that I put text on the photo. Anyway, I missed last week’s challenge, to find a photo that illustrates a line from poetry or other literary pieces, so I chose Gerard Manley Hopkins’ poem, God’s Grandeur. It speaks to me this spring, especially that opening line I used in the photo.

I  love my flowers

I love my flowers, too. We’ve been planting a lot the past few years and enjoying the fruits of our labor in the yard. John planted all these daffodils to delight me — you probably guessed I also like William Wordsworth’s poem, Daffodils. But this week’s challenge calls for landscape photos.

So there you go, a landscape of flowers inspired by poetry. Or something like that.

WPC: Life Imitates Art

I didn’t exactly take this picture. Exactly. But I framed it. Does that count? My life is imitating art.

Traveling Exhibit

I had the pleasure of going to the Vermeer exhibit at The High in Atlanta last year. The Girl with the Pearl Earring was the big draw, so they had this cut out in the lobby. I’m not sure this necessarily promotes seeing great pieces — but hey, it was there, why not pop in the picture?

The exhibit was lovely — as I appreciated Vermeer’s other works, as well, but this is what drew the crowds. Like the Mona Lisa, it was much smaller than I thought.

More Art — Imitating Art

Also, it occurs to me that the model resembles the actress Laura Carmichael who plays Lady Edith Crawley from Downton Abbey. Follow the links and tell me it ain’t true!
